About
Catherine is a Ph.D. student in Health & Rehabilitation Sciences working in the Laboratory for Well-Being and Quality of Life in Oncology at the University of Western Ontario. She received her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences in 2008 and completed her Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Sciences in 2009 from the University of Western Ontario. Through her interdisciplinary M.Sc. research Catherine examined the influence of distress on quality of life in individuals diagnosed with head and neck cancer. As an extension to this area of psychosocial oncology, Catherine’s doctoral research focuses on the personal and social consequences related to elevated levels of distress in oncology. Specifically, her research centers on how the presence of distress relates to decrements in mental health and quality of life for individuals diagnosed with and treated for cancer. In addition to this work, Catherine also works in the Voice Production and Perception Laboratory (UWO) and the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, London Health Sciences Centre, where she is actively involved in several collaborative projects that address communication disability and quality of life concerns in those treated for head and neck cancer. Catherine's work is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
